BACK TO THE BASICS

There are a few basic truths given in the New Testament that identify the Way, the church of Christ.

We know that Jesus is the Christ, the Word, the Savior, and the Son of God who is God.

He came into the world to offer us eternal life through His death, sacrificing His body and His blood on the cross as the atonement for our sins and for the sins of all mankind.

Jesus was raised from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures and appeared to many people over the next forty days before ascending into heaven.

We gain salvation by our obedience of faith to the Word of God given to us through His Son (Hebrews 5:9, Romans 1:5 and 6, and John 12:48).

Jesus taught us that to enter His church, His body, and His eternal kingdom, we must first believe that He is who He says He is, confess that truth before men, and change our lives by repenting of our sins.

Then we must be reborn by being buried into His death through baptism in water in His name for the forgiveness of sins, receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit, and being raised up to a new life in Christ.

These teachings of Jesus and His chosen apostles were confirmed by God with many signs, wonders, miracles, and gifts of the Spirit, and they are recorded for us in the God-breathed Scriptures.

We who have put on Christ in baptism meet on the first day of the week, just like the first disciples, to remember His sacrificed body and blood by partaking of the unleavened bread and the fruit of the vine.

We observe the Lord's Supper in communion with Him as the memorial of His death on the same day of the week that He was raised from the grave.

This remembrance on the Lord's Day is the only observance given for Christians in the New Testament.

But the significance of the resurrection of Christ is that He is the firstborn from the dead, and having conquered that last enemy, death, He now lives forever and sits at the right hand of God.

The victory has been won, so the only question left for us is which side are we on—the winning side with Jesus in His Father's house, or the losing side with Satan in the eternal lake of fire?

  • Our Mission

The Yucaipa church of Christ exists to glorify God, equip all Christians in their walk of faith, and win lost souls to Christ. We believe in the peace, love, and joy that God wants you to have.

We invite you to come and worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. It is our prayer that you will want to visit us in person as we worship our Lord Jesus Christ and God the Father together.

We are Christians who are committed to serving our Lord and Master. As believers our intent is to continue Jesus' mission. We know that Christ came to seek and save the lost. We further understand that all men are sinners. Without God's grace, all men would be lost and without hope. Our purpose is to spread the good news of Jesus to others that they too might enjoy God's saving grace through His word.

  • Core Beliefs

This Church Is To Foster The Worship Of GodWorship in churches of Christ centers in five items, the same as in the first-century church. We believe the pattern is important. Jesus said, "God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:24). From this statement we learn three things:

    1) Our worship must be directed to the right object ... God;

    2) It must be prompted by the right spirit;

    3) It must be according to truth.

To worship God according to truth is to worship him according to his Word, because his Word is truth (John 17:17). Therefore, we must not exclude any item found in his Word, and we must not include any item not found in his Word.

In matters of religion we are to walk by faith (2 Corinthians 5:7). Since faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17), anything not authorized by the Bible cannot be done by faith ... and whatever is not of faith is sin (Romans 14:23).

The five items of worship observed by the first-century church were singing, praying, preaching, giving, and eating the Lord's Supper.

We Believe The Bible Is The Word Of GodWe are committed to the continual study of God’s Word, the Bible, to see how we can most closely give God the personal and collective worship He desires. (2 Timothy 3:16:17)

  • I'm New Tell Me More

The Yucaipa church of Christ is excited about the future. Our goal is to develop dynamic group activities that serve to bring glory and honor to God. Everyone is important to God and His church. We want to help every member in our group activities to reach his or her fullest potential in life. Sometimes glorifying God will look like service involvement. At other times, it may simply be enjoying the mutual bond we share as believers in Christ through fellowship.

Come and join us this week for Bible study and worship. We look forward to becoming your friend and having you as a member of our congregation.

  • What We Teach

Baptism Is Essential For SalvationPerhaps you are wondering, "How does one become a member of the church of Christ?" What are the terms of membership?

Churches of Christ do not speak of membership in terms of some formula which must be followed for approved acceptance into the church. The New Testament gives certain steps which were taken by people in that day to become Christians. When a person became a Christian he automatically was a member of the church.

The same is true of churches of Christ today. There is no separate set of rules or ceremonies which one must follow to be inducted into the church. When one becomes a Christian he, at the same time, becomes a member of the church. No further steps are required to qualify for church membership.

On the first day of the church's existence those who repented and were baptized were saved (Acts 2:38). And from that day forward all those who were saved were added to the church (Acts 2:47). According to this verse (Acts 2:47) it was God who did the adding. Therefore, in seeking to follow this pattern, we neither vote people into the church nor force them through a required series of studies. We have no right to demand anything beyond their obedient submission to the Savior.

The conditions of pardon which are taught in the New Testament are:

    1) One must hear the gospel, for "faith comes by hearing the word of God" (Romans 10:17).
    2) One must believe, for "without faith it is impossible to please God" (Hebrews 11:6).
    3) One must repent of past sins, for God "commands all men, every- where to repent" (Acts 17:30).
    4) One must confess Jesus as Lord, for he said, "He that confesses me before men, him will I also confess before my father who is in heaven" (Matthew 10:32).
    5) And one must be baptized for the remission of sins, for Peter said, "Repent, and be baptized every- one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins ..." (Acts 2:38).
